Turning

From small diameters up to 78" diameter with lengths of 166"

Product Summary

Small turning with tolerances down to .0001
Large diameters up to 78” with CNC precision and repeatability
Turning up to 166” in length

FHP has the ability to turn parts from a few grams to 6000 Lbs and hold close tolerances at the same time. We have the latest CNC lathes and VTLs with capabilities up to 78-inch diameter and up to 166 inches in length. Hard turning, facing of Stellite and tool steel up to 60Rc. Threads of all sizes, including special buttress, metric, British, API, and ACME styles. Large spherical radii for mirrors or bearing seats can also be turned.

Milling

From small X, Y, and Z to greater than 78 »X x 59 »Y x 57 »Z and up to 14000# capacity.

Milling Services

Machining of small workpiece sizes in a Bridgeport Acurite CNC machine, to high-speed CNC contouring in our Okuma vertical milling centers, to work envelopes of 80” x 32” and beyond in our large Matsuura verticals, and then on to our large Toshiba Boring Mills with capacities of 78” x 59” x 57” and a table capacity of 14,000 pounds. We routinely perform 3D and 5-axis rotary milling on a wide variety of materials, including exotics and refractory metals.

We can handle fractional-size work pieces to large work greater than 80” in length.

Grinding

Our Blanchard grinders can swing up to 72”. Cylindrical grinding can be done up to 20” diameter, surface grinders can grind up to 30”, and honing up to 20” diameter.

Grinding Services

Blanchard Grinding

Our Blanchard grinders have been an integral part of our offered services. Whether it be for machining castings, plates, weldments, or any metal able to be abrasively machined, we have a full complement of capabilities to meet your needs. We are able to grind workpieces with a swing distance of up to 48” to achieve a flat machined surface.

Cylindrical Grinding

We offer both ID and OD cylindrical grinding. Utilizing our state-of-the-art machines, we can safely grind workpieces up to 20” in diameter and 72 “ long. Typically, the materials that we grind can include carbon steels, hardened tool steels, non-ferrous metals, and many aerospace and exotic materials. FHP also provides the outside process of chrome plating, and we grind to critical dimensions as well as achieve the required finishes.

Honing

We also provide internal honing from .06” to 20” in diameter, with a maximum length of 60”. This service allows for improved visual and micro-measured surface textures from a cross-hatch pattern to a near mirror finish, depending on material type, hardness, etc.

Surface Grinding

We offer a full complement of surface grinding to achieve critical surface finishes or for the machining of heat-treated materials. If desired, close tolerance flatness can also be obtained by surface grinding on most carbon steels. This operation, in conjunction with other processes such as hardening and tempering, can produce high-quality surface characteristics to meet your most critical requirements. Our machines have a travel capacity of 30” x 10” using either magnetic or non-magnetic chucking. A maximum workpiece height of 14” allows for a variety of setups.

Material

We maintain a vast supply of material for your quick turnaround jobs.

Material Services

It is a plus for a job shop to have the material in stock for short turnaround service. Our customers have demands that are answered with materials that can be cut within hours and machined the very same day.
