THE LEGEND OF THE “FAT MAN” LOGO

What started to be a lighthearted caper for an employee’s Christmas party in 1962 became the familiar logo that adorns the offices and advertising for F.H. Peterson. The caricature of a machinist was given to F.H. Peterson by a vendor. His “Fat Man” with a patched apron and baggy pants, holding an anvil and hammer, was the ideal image of the old school machinist. Floyd Peterson liked the cartoon caricature so much that he ordered it to be placed on his business cards and letterheads. Before long, the “Fat Man” was on the sign and decorating the office. In 1975 F.H. Peterson registered the logo with the U.S. Patent office and in 1992 the initials FHP were added.
